to the Böblingen Waste Management Company

Welcome

The Böblingen Waste Management Company (AWB) is responsible for the disposal of waste from around 400,000 residents and an array of commercial enterprises in the administrative district of Böblingen.

With roughly 500 employees, we perform these tasks as a specialist waste disposal company with our own fleet of vehicles. In doing so, we are steadily transforming from a waste management concept to a modern circular economy. Besides professional waste disposal and recycling, climate protection and sustainability are gaining ever greater importance.

We are defined as a municipal company and operate on a non-profit basis. We deliver essential services to all in our community on a daily basis - even in times of crisis.

Our free Abfall-App is a valuable resource containing all collection dates and an A-Z of waste.

Bring us your recyclable materials.

Recycling centres

The 31 recycling centres, distributed across towns and municipalities as local collection points for recyclable materials and other waste, form the backbone of the recycling system in the administrative district of Böblingen. Correct separation and sorting of recyclable materials at the recycling centres allow for the high-quality recycling of materials and ensure the maximum reuse of these materials.
In addition to packaging, other recyclable materials, such as paper, cardboard, electrical appliances and hard plastics, can also be disposed of at the recycling centres. Some types of lightweight packaging, including plastic film, beverage cartons and bottles, are collected separately, as they can be recycled effectively.
Bulky waste can also be disposed of free of charge at all our recycling centres.

Container locations

We have installed roughly 350 recycling container locations across all 26 towns and municipalities. The containers can be filled with white, brown and green glass. Additional containers for old textiles are available at some of the locations.

Shredding sites

We also operate and manage shredding sites in the administrative district of Böblingen. Local residents can bring tree and hedge cuttings to the 24 shredding sites.

Hazardous substance collection sites

Private households can dispose of hazardous substances free of charge at two collection sites.

We collect the following bins from your doorstep.

General waste bin (black lid)

Each property is required to have at least one general waste bin; there are 120 or 240-litre bins, or containers for residential complexes and large businesses. A chip on the bin is read every time the bin is collected. The less waste you produce, the less collections you will need, resulting in lower waste disposal costs. General waste is incinerated in our cutting-edge waste-to-energy plant, which generates energy and heat.

All types of non-recyclable waste or waste that cannot be disposed of in any other way, e.g.

Organic waste bin (green lid)

The bins are intended for the disposal of organic waste. Organic waste is used in fermentation and composting plants to produce high-quality compost and to generate energy. This completes the natural cycle and helps protect the environment and curb climate change. The requirement is that the bin is filled properly - any impurities must be painstakingly removed and disposed of as general waste.

What goes in…

  • Garden waste

Paper bin (blue lid)

Paper is a valuable raw material. Producing new paper from old paper helps to conserve natural resources, such as wood and water, and save energy. We collect the 120 and 240-litre bins as well as the containers for residential complexes and large businesses free of charge.

What goes in…

  • Newspapers, magazines, catalogues, brochures
  • Booklets, books (unbound)

To conserve our limited resources, we need to manage waste responsibly. The effective separation and recycling of materials are key objectives. In addition to our 31 recycling centres, we provide orange recycling bins for a fee to those who cannot or choose not to visit a recycling centre. The contents of the orange bin are sorted and recycled.

Waste avoidance concerns all of us!

The top priority in waste management is waste avoidance. Waste that is not created in the first place does not need to be recycled or disposed of. Everyone can contribute greatly to waste avoidance through their conscious consumption.

Donation points at recycling centres

Items that can still be used and are in good condition, such as games, household goods or books, do not need to be thrown away. They can be dropped off at one of our donation points located at several recycling centres.

Donate-and-more-market

The AWB online platform covers four topics: Donating, buying and selling second-hand items, saving food and reusing items. This is where still usable items can be offered or found. The addresses of collection points for food donations or repair initiatives in the administrative district are also listed here.

Femos Möbelhalle

The Femos Möbelhalle in Böblingen offers second-hand goods at low prices. By arrangement, they collect still usable furniture from your home and deliver it to a designated location. The store also sells second-hand household appliances and books.
